Frankenstein book review

As the first “science fiction” novel, Frankenstein has distinctly Gothic characteristics. This writer creates a scary, repression and mystery story. The main character monster, is look like human but not entirely human. Those elements creating a frightening effect to the reader and the story reveals the dark side of the society. After reading the book Frankenstein, I was deeply touched. I am sympathized with the fate of the monster, felt sad that stereotypes can finally destroy a good person and also worries about the technological developments that ignore ethical constraints.

A monster is created by scientist Frankenstein. He is so ugly that everyone is scared of him. Because of that, people hurt him, attacked him even though he did many good things. He seems to be a mistake and have no right to live. People hate him simply because of his ugly face. However, I can feel that the monster is born with a kind, sincere heart through reading the book. Unfortunately, his hopes were eventually extinguished by repeated persecution and start to revenge.

In fact, it's not just happened in the novel. In the current society, stereotypes are still something that people can't get rid of. There will still be a lot of people who despise others because they do manual labor, judge a person by his appearance, refuse to associate with the poor and hostile to a person from certain race or nation. This hinders the progress of society, the development of human civilization and the integration of cultures. Frankenstein cannot accept the creature he created and abandoned him, which lead to an irreparable tragedy. Only overcoming the stereotypes could save countless others like him.

This story also warned us that people cannot overuse the power of technology and science. Frankenstein blindly believes that he has the power to change the world and create technology but ignored the moral reasons, successfully create life but do not understand the education and cultivation, have the opportunity to prevent tragedy but choose to escape. If there is too much worship and no rules to restrain the development of science, there will result to unexpected consequences.
